JARED BETTS
Riding Swans into the Ether
KATZMAN ART PROJECTS
Halifax NS
July 19 to August 31, 2024
Opening Reception
Friday July 19, 5 to 7pm
Riding Swans into the Ether embarks on a journey of nostalgia and escapism, where Betts simultaneously immerses the viewer in a fantasy realm of fairies and swans, while confronting complex issues surrounding death, grief, and healing. By harnessing the power of colour and gestural forms, Betts creates a space for play, offering solace and wonder in the midst of life's challenges.
“My art is a vibrant neon cyberpunk fusion of influences, blending the ethereal beauty of Rococo swamp nymphs with the bold energy of the New York art school movement of the 1950s, all infused with the retro aesthetic of the 80s. Drawing inspiration from these diverse sources, my work is a celebration of fantasy, colour, and emotion.
In loving memory of my beautiful ethereal brother Jason Betts & his animal loving, kind soulmate Tim O’Brien"
- Jared Betts
An otherworldly bloom, its translucent petals adorned with celestial hues, as if painted by the hand of a celestial neon alien artist.
A flower of ethereal beauty, its form seemingly woven from threads of moonlight, radiating a soft, mystical glow like a murder of black cygnet swans in an Iceland aurora .
A spectral blossom, its ethereal presence evoking a sense of wonder and reverence, as if touched by the breath of celestial beings.
A flower that seems to transcend earthly confines, its petals imbued with a luminous grace that defies description, blooming as if from the very essence of dreams.
The iris moon and the celestial lionsgate portal, Leda and the swan, Margaret and the dolphin, Jerry and the swallowtail butterfly corpse orgy, I've never felt like I was a human, I always knew I was born in the stars through the hands of God in a nebula Illuminating and electrifying Venus.
In the stillness of the night, when darkness blankets the land, it's easy to forget that it is merely a shadow cast by the radiant embrace of the moon and the sun.
The moon, a silent sentinel, bathes the world in its gentle glow, casting intricate patterns of light and shadow upon the earth.
Beyond the sun, unseen but ever-present, fuels the dance of day and night, its warmth and brilliance shaping the very fabric of existence.
In this cosmic interplay of light and shadow, darkness becomes not a void to be feared, but a canvas upon which the celestial bodies paint their intricate masterpiece.
In the depths of night, there is a profound beauty to be found—a reminder that darkness is but a fleeting illusion in the eternal dance of light. The darker the night, the brighter angel stars illuminate.
